Universal Professional Spotter™ Professional Spot & Spill Removal Instructions
Why Carpet Pros developed this Universal Professional Spotter™
Our Universal Professional Spotter™ was developed for in-home use from decades of frustration. The repeated frustration of seeing our Carpet Pros clients, and others, struggle with the endless negative side effects of using over-the-counter spotters, or other “in-home” concoctions that tend to cause more problems than they solve — and in many cases actually ruin their expensive furnishings.
This proprietary spotting solution provides our Carpet Pros clients with a professional quality product which is one spot-cleaning solution for carpet, area rugs, and upholstery—regardless of the fiber or fabric.
Our Universal Professional Spotter™ is not a detergent, thus does not contain traditional detergent chemistry associated with detergent residue and related cleaning concerns.
It is formulated to be 100% environmentally safe and safe for use on many carpet fibers, rug fibers, and upholstery fabrics when used according to directions.
The process is simple Apply. Allow to Dwell. Blot. Remove the Soil.
Apply
Mist the product directly onto the affected area.
Allow to Dwell
Allow approximately 10 minutes or longer of dwell time for the product to work.
Blot
Gently agitate with your fingers only, then blot—do not scrub.
Remove the Soil
Remove the dissolved soil and cleaning solution by blotting or extraction (such as a wet/dry vac)when appropriate.
Our Universal Professional Spotter™ is designed to work on the spot while minimizing unnecessary agitation. For best results, treat spots as soon as possible and always use our Universal Professional Spotter™ according to directions.
Before You Begin
-
Remove excess material first.
Blot or carefully scrape up as much of the spill or soil as possible without spreading it.
-
Test first when appropriate.
Our Universal Professional Spotter™ is safe for natural fibers such as wool, cotton, silk, and viscose (not recommended for sisal, hemp, or seagrass). Even so, testing an inconspicuous area is recommended to identify unusual dye instability, pre-existing damage, or reactions caused by previous treatments or finishes.
-
Do not over-wet.
Apply only enough product to treat the affected area.
-
Work from the outside toward the center.
This helps prevent the spot from spreading.
-
Blot—do not scrub.
Aggressive rubbing can damage the appearance or texture of a textile and may spread the contaminant.
For difficult spots, repeat the application as necessary rather than applying excessive amounts of product during a single treatment.
Carpet & Area Rugs
Our Universal Professional Spotter™ is safe for use on many carpet and rug fiber types, including Wool, Silk, Cotton, Nylon, Polyester, Triexta, Olefin, and other natural and synthetic fibers. It may be used on both installed wall-to-wall carpet and area rugs.
Instructions
- Remove loose or excess soil before applying our Universal Professional Spotter™.
- Mist our Universal Professional Spotter™ directly onto the affected area.
- Allow approximately 10 minutes or longer of dwell time.
- Gently agitate with your fingers.
- Blot. Do not scrub.

Upholstery
Our Universal Professional Spotter™ is safe for use on upholstery fabrics such as cotton, linen, and synthetic fibers when used according to directions.
Instructions
- Remove loose material from the surface.
- Mist our Universal Professional Spotter™ sparingly onto the affected area.
- Allow approximately 10 minutes or longer of dwell time.
- Work from the outside of the spot toward the center.
- Blot. Do not scrub.
- Remove the dissolved soil and cleaning solution after treatment.
- Allow the treated area to dry naturally.
- Avoid unnecessary moisture, particularly around seams, cushions, and areas where moisture can penetrate into the furniture.
Always follow the furniture manufacturer’s care instructions regarding the overall cleaning method for the upholstery.
Important Considerations
Although our Universal Professional Spotter™ is safe for most fibers, certain materials, such as viscose, are extremely moisture-sensitive and should not be unnecessarily saturated. When treating these materials, use only enough of the product to address the spot and carefully control the amount of moisture introduced into the material.
Handle with extra care
- Viscose
- Rayon
Not Recommended
- Sisal
- Seagrass
- Hemp
Special Consideration: Wool and Urine
Wool is a natural protein fiber, and urine contamination can cause immediate and irreversible damage. When urine comes into contact with wool, its acidic nature almost immediately alters the wool fibers and dyes. This may result in yellowing, browning, discoloration, fiber degradation, or distortion of the pile. The longer urine remains in the wool, the greater the potential for permanent damage.
Once the wool fiber or its coloration has been chemically altered, no cleaning process or treatment can restore the fiber or color to its original condition.
Our Universal Professional Spotter™ is safe for use on wool; however, it cannot reverse damage that has already occurred as a result of urine or other contaminants.
For rugs with significant or repeated urine contamination, professional evaluation and in-plant cleaning are recommended.
Important Precautions
The safety of our Universal Professional Spotter™ does not eliminate the need to consider the condition of the textile and the nature of the contaminant. Pre-existing damage, unstable dyes, previous treatments, or chemical damage caused by a contaminant can affect the final appearance after cleaning.
DO
this for best results
Test an inconspicuous area when practical.
Use only the amount of our Universal Professional Spotter™ necessary to treat the spot.
Blot only — never scrub.
Treat the spot as soon as possible.
Repeat the application rather than over-applying once.
Discontinue treatment and consult a professional cleaner if satisfactory results are not achieved.
DO NOT
do these
Do not scrub. Blot only.
Do not over-apply our Universal Professional Spotter™.
Do not unnecessarily saturate carpet, rugs, or upholstery.
Do not mix our Universal Professional Spotter™ with other cleaning chemicals or enzymes.
Do not use excessive agitation.
Do not continue treating an area if pre-existing damage becomes apparent or satisfactory results are not achieved.
When to Call Carpet Pros
Our Universal Professional Spotter™ is intended for localized spots and spills and is not a substitute for routine professional cleaning. Professional cleaning should be considered when:
- Soil is widespread throughout the carpet, rug, or upholstery.
- A spill has penetrated deeply into the material.
- An odor remains after spot treatment.
- The contaminant has chemically altered the fiber, fabric, or dye.
- Repeated spot treatment does not produce the desired result.
- The textile requires restorative or specialized cleaning.
- A rug has significant or repeated urine contamination.
Treat spots as soon as possible. Prompt treatment gives you the best opportunity to remove the contaminant before it becomes more difficult to clean.
