Carpet Cleaning Services

Carpet is expensive How do I protect my investment?

Most people never consider that carpet is among the highest cost items in nearly every home. So, how do you get the most out of your investment?  By maintaining it...

Just like your automobile, your carpet requires regular maintenance. It should be maintained through regular vacuuming, proper spot removal, timely professional cleaning, and the reapplication of a high-quality carpet protector.

How long your carpet lasts is all about dry soil removal.

Nothing destroys the beautiful look of carpet like dry soil, so it is important that it be removed properly and timely. For this reason, your carpet should be vacuumed at least once a week, and professional cleaning should take place at regular intervals – well before the carpet has visible soil.

Why is dry soil so bad for my carpet?

If you look at soil under a microscope, the first thing you notice are the sharp edges, and these sharp edges are perfect for cutting and slicing the soft fibers of your carpet.

As soil builds up in the traffic areas, it is no wonder that walking on the carpet gradually causes damage to the yarns and fibers.

If carpet is not properly maintained and the dry soil frequently removed, even a professional restorative cleaning process cannot reverse the damage to the fibers. This is why proper and professional cleaning must be performed on a timely and regular basis to prevent traffic lanes from forming, thus extending the life of your investment.

What professional cleaning process is best?

The only professional cleaning process which is recommended by all the major carpet manufacturers is Hot Water Extraction / Steam Cleaning. This is not an opinion. In fact, employing the use of Hot Water Extraction / Steam Cleaning is a requirement to maintain the texture retention warranty through the manufacturer.

This is a requirement because of all of the different carpet cleaning methods, Hot Water Extraction / Steam Cleaning is by far the most effective at removing the damaging dry soil which builds up within the carpet fibers & backing material.

It is important to note that none of the "dry cleaning" processes are recognized as a stand-alone cleaning process by any major carpet manufacturer, or by the Carpet & Rug Institute. Dry-cleaning processes are only recommended as a "maintenance process" to be performed in-between or along with Hot Water Extraction / Steam Cleaning.

How often should I clean my carpet?

All major carpet manufacturers including Mohawk, Shaw, and StainMaster require professional Hot Water Extraction / Steam Cleaning every 6 to 18 months to maintain the texture retention warranty.

So, which is it... 6 or 18 months?  The carpet manufacturers’ guidelines for homes with one adult is every 18 months. For each additional family member, take off 3 months, and the same applies for pets. For most families, the best plan is to have the carpet cleaned annually. Take special notice of the heavy traffic areas as they may need to be cleaned more often, depending on the level of traffic.

Does having my carpet cleaned improve indoor air quality?

Definitely... The EPA publishes guidelines that recommend regular cleaning frequencies for wall-to-wall carpet based on the number of occupants. If you have children, indoor pets, allergies, live in a humid climate, or smoke, more frequent cleaning is recommended, with the average being annually.

The bottom line

In a nutshell, carpeting which is properly and professionally cleaned on a regular basis will last longer, look better, and will help create a healthier home environment for you and your family.
